Boutique and design-led
Walking distance to Main Street
Hoffman Haus
A collection of restored historic buildings and cottages set around gardens a couple of blocks off Main. Breakfast is delivered to your door in a basket, which is a small thing that people remember for years. The best-loved property in town, and the one that books first.
Downtown
The Albert Hotel
A newer full-service hotel right in the heart of town, built at a scale and level of finish Fredericksburg had not previously had. Rooms, restaurants, and a pool within a walk of everything. The choice if you want a real hotel rather than a guesthouse.
At Gillespie County Airport
Hangar Hotel
A 1940s-airfield-themed hotel next to the runway, complete with a period officers' club bar and a diner. It sounds like a gimmick and it entirely works. Two miles from Main Street, so you will drive in.
Full-service and reliable
Two blocks from Main Street
Inn on Barons Creek
A large full-service property with a pool and a spa, close enough to walk to dinner and big enough that it usually has availability when the boutique places do not. The safe, comfortable default.
South Washington Street
Fredericksburg Inn & Suites
Straightforward, well-located, and reasonably priced, with a pool and included breakfast. Not exciting, but a short walk from Main Street and frequently the answer when you booked late.
Edge of town
The national chains on Hwy 87 and 290
A handful of standard branded hotels ring the town. They are a drive from Main Street and no one's first choice, but on a sold-out weekend they beat staying in Kerrville.
Austin Wine Car
Or stay in Austin and let us drive
If Fredericksburg is booked out — and in April and October it often is — an Austin base plus a door-to-door wine day works just as well. Three wineries, home by evening.

Guesthouses and Sunday houses
Fredericksburg's most distinctive lodging is not a hotel at all. The town has hundreds of restored historic cottages, farmhouses, and Sunday houses — the small in-town second homes German farming families built for weekend visits — rented out as private accommodation. Several local agencies manage them, Gastehaus Schmidt being the longest established. For a group of four to ten this is almost always better value and more comfortable than booking multiple hotel rooms.
- Best for: groups, families, anyone staying more than one night.
- Watch for: a real kitchen, off-street parking, and how many blocks from Main Street it actually is.
- The catch: cleaning fees and minimum-night requirements on peak weekends.
Out of town, on the land
5–20 minutes out
Ranch and vineyard stays
A growing number of properties around Fredericksburg rent cabins, cottages, and casitas on working ranch or vineyard land. You trade walkability for stars, quiet, and space. Excellent for a couple; awkward if you want to walk to dinner.
Various
Glamping and cabin resorts
Several sites in the area offer tents, cabins, and Airstreams with real beds and bathrooms. Genuinely comfortable and popular with groups who want a firepit at the end of the day.
Edge of town
RV and camping resorts
Fredericksburg has good options for RVs and campers, with pools and hookups. The cheapest way to spend a weekend here by a wide margin.
Choosing by what you care about
| If you want… | Book | Note |
|---|---|---|
| To walk to dinner | Hoffman Haus, The Albert, Inn on Barons Creek | All within a few blocks of Main |
| A group of six or more | A guesthouse or Sunday house | Better value than four hotel rooms |
| Something memorable | Hoffman Haus or Hangar Hotel | Both are the story you tell later |
| A pool | Inn on Barons Creek, The Albert, Fredericksburg Inn | Matters more than you think in July |
| To book last minute | Chains on the highway, or an Austin base | Everything else will be gone |
| Quiet and stars | A ranch or vineyard stay | You will drive to everything |
Booking notes
- Two-night minimums are common on weekends and near-universal on holiday weekends.
- Rates roughly double between a Tuesday in January and a Saturday in April.
- Check the walk to Main Street on a map rather than trusting a listing's description of "downtown".
- If you are doing a wine day, ask whether the property allows a car to pick up and drop off at the door. Almost all do, but the guesthouses on narrow side streets are worth confirming.
- Late checkout on Sunday is worth asking for and often granted outside peak season.
